One clove in, a whole head out!

Big harvest day at our place this week! Remember the garlic we planted back in November? After eight months of waiting (and waiting, and waiting...), we finally pulled them out of the ground!

Here is the part that amazes me every single time. In November, you push one single clove into the cold soil. In July, you pull out a whole head. One clove in, a whole head out! Best exchange rate I know. Haha!

And I could not help thinking: learning a piece of music works exactly the same way. You think you are only learning that one piece. But when it has truly grown, what you harvest is so much more than one piece: a better pair of ears, steadier hands, and a kind of patience that stays with you for every piece that comes after.

These little observations from the piano room and the garden have slowly been finding their way into my book. It is almost ready, and I cannot wait to share it with you!

Now the garlic needs to cure for a few weeks before we can store it. More patience... this garden never stops teaching me. Haha!

Have you ever grown something that surprised you? Tell me about it!
