Our Anniversary Concert Day and the Tonkatsu We Never Found
Tuesday was our thirteenth wedding anniversary, and it was also a concert day!
We had a private performance at Hollyburn, so the days before the concert were mostly spent practising. There was not much else happening. We were going through the program, bringing older pieces back into our hands, and trying to make sure everything felt settled.
Recently, we watched a Japanese drama called “Queen of Lunch”, which was a very popular drama when I was in high school, and I’m introducing it to Scott! There’s lots of delicious looking Japanese food in the show, and we started craving tonkatsu, the Japanese-style deep-fried pork cutlet.
On the morning of our anniversary, we decided to go to a Japanese restaurant for lunch. We thought we would eat tonkatsu, get rid of the craving, and then go play the concert.
The restaurant did not have tonkatsu.
We were surprised, but we ordered something else and decided we could try another restaurant for dinner after the concert.
By the time the performance was finished and we returned to our area, most Japanese restaurants were already closed. We found one near our house that was still open and went in.
They did not have tonkatsu either!
We really did not think it would be difficult to find. I always thought Japanese pork cutlet was one of the most common things on a Japanese restaurant menu. Maybe that used to be true? Haha….
So that was our thirteenth anniversary. We practised, played a concert, tried twice to find tonkatsu, and ended the day eating something else.
It was not the anniversary meal we imagined, but it was funny enough that we will probably remember it for a long time.
Happy thirteenth anniversary to us!
